Meet our Team for 2017
All Junior Sailing Instructor’s are certified and registered through the national governing body Sail Canada. This certification includes both practical and theoretical training as well as ongoing assessments, throughout their coaching careers. Instructors are also recognized first aid responders and are trained in water and boat rescue & safety.
Brendan Smith- CANSail 5&6, Race Coach, Head Instructor
Brendan is a recent Bachelor of Science gradute from Saint Mary's University, where he majored in Physical Geography, and is currently enrolled in the Oceans Technology Advanced Diploma program at NSCC. He has been sailing since the age of 9 and has gone to multiple international events. These events include multiple Canadian National championships, US National Championships, North American Championships and World Championship events. He has also competed with Saint Mary's Unviersity sailing team in the Student Yachting World Cup qualifier, as well as the Intercolligiate Offshore Regatta in New York with the Dalhousie Sailing team. He has been coaching for 7 years in the Sail Canada program.
Eric Jewers - CANSail 3&4
This summer, Eric returns to DYC for his fourth year in a row, having just successfully finished his second year of Engineering at Dalhousie University. He completed all of his Junior Sailing Training at DYC and was our most accomplished sailor in 2013 when he qualified CANSail 5, Eric still races in his spare time, on any boat he can get on.
Alannah Peters - CANSail 1&2
For the 2016 season Alannah will be joining the DYC Instructor team for her third year in a row. She has currently just finished her first year at Saint Mary's University, and has been involved with sailing for the past 9 years, which has included racing optis, 420s and lasers. She is CANSail Level 5 qualified. Alannah still currently races at Dartmouth Yacht Club on Wednesday Nights.
