Dartmouth Yacht Club has seen tremendous growth in its yacht racing program, doubling participation in the past several years. To ensure our program continues to expand and improve we have established the following waypoints to maintain our course for continuous growth and improvement.
  • Encourage participation and promote excellence in sailing and sailboat racing.
  • Promote and ensure top-quality, fair, enjoyable and safe competition.
  • Encourage and promote yacht racing, and support other yacht clubs and related events.
  • Foster a learning environment for novice and experienced sailors by providing appropriate training and education.
  • Promote and foster a positive attitude and pride in the DYC Racing Program.

Club Racing

Our very popular, highly competitive Wednesday Night Race Series has four classes; A Fleet Spinnaker, B Fleet Spinnaker, C Fleet Non-Spinnaker and D Fleet Non-Spinnaker. See sailing instructions for the handicap breakdown.The year is divided into a spring, summer, and fall series. Each series is comprised of 7 or more races with 2 drops each. Participation has exploded over the past few years with as many as 45 yachts taking part. Prizes are awarded and food is available at the clubhouse each week.

Monday Night White Sail Fun Racing is a new series exists to provide an opportunity for new sailors and those without a lot of crew to participate and learn the ropes and the rules in a relaxed environment. 


About Us

The Dartmouth Yacht Club is nestled in Wright's Cove - a sheltered recess with high land on both sides located on the eastern shore of Halifax Harbour. It is ideal for mooring, with a convenient marina for the launch and recovery of boats.
